There Was A Sound
Have you ever been talking to someone and the person said, “Did you hear that?” You responded, “Hear what?” “There was a sound.” No one knows where the noise came from; all that is known is that there was a sound. Such noises can be a warning, announcement, or simply a notification. Regardless of the source, we pay attention to the sound. God also uses all sorts of sounds, like a trumpet announcing the return of Jesus. So, listen for the sound.
The Story: Ezekiel 37:1-10
In Ezekiel 37:1-10, Ezekiel had an encounter with the Lord in the middle of a valley full of dry bones. God asked him if the bones could live, and Ezekiel responded that God knew. At this, God told Ezekiel to prophesy to the bones. Ezekiel did as the Lord commanded. As he spoke, there was a sound. The bones rattled, came together, followed by sinew and flesh, and skin. Although there were bodies, no sound came from them. A command was given to the four winds, and breath entered them. Before Ezekiel, a great army stood.
The Lesson
As there was a sound for the arrival of the army, there is a sound for us. God is speaking. He comes with instruction, guidance, comfort, and correction. Are we listening for the sound? Have we allowed the cares of the world to dull our senses? Do we ignore the sound, thinking it’s the same old noise? Our insistence on ignoring the sound can prove detrimental. To avoid this, seek God. Ask Him to verify and clarify the sound. He didn’t want us caught unaware.
In addition, He wants us to make a sound for Him. We don’t always have to use words. The way we live can speak of His goodness and mercy. The way we love declares His love to others. We are His sound in the earth. What noise are we making?
