The Answer is Yes
Have you ever heard the worship song, Yes, Lord, Yes? Several singers sang their renditions, but attached is the one performed by Jessy Dixon and Gaither Music. This version centers on the chorus, “Yes, Lord, Yes. I will trust you and obey. When Your Spirit speaks to me with my whole heart, I’ll agree, and my answer will be yes, Lord, yes.” These few words ask us as Christians to fully surrender to what God says. Although it’s easy to say yes with our mouths, the same isn’t always true with our actions. Sometimes we want what we want or don’t think we can do what He wants. What’s our answer then? If we want God and His will more than anything else, then the answer is yes.
The Story: 2 Kings 22:8-20
In 2 Kings 2:8-22, Hilkiah the priest gives a scroll also known as the Book of the Law he finds to Shaphan, the court secretary. Shaphan leaves and notifies King Josiah that the collected money was given to the supervisors at the Temple. He also reads the scroll to him. When the king hears the words from Book of the Law, he is distraught and tears his clothes. Then he sends Hilkiah, Shaphan, and others to speak to the Lord on his behalf.
When they arrive at the Temple, Huldah, the prophetess, tells them the Lord would bring disaster on the city and the people. Everything written in the scroll will come true because the people abandoned God to follow idols. However, disaster wouldn’t come until after the king’s death.
The Lesson
In these verses, we see a surprise guest. Huldah was Treasurer in the Temple and a Prophetess. Her answer to the Lord was yes. She did her daily job and spoke for God when He called her. Will we respond like Huldah? Is our answer yes or it depends?
When God calls us, He doesn’t convene a committee or ask for our resume. Instead, He puts our assignment inside of us and orchestrates situations so we arrive on time and ready to work. In addition, He brings us into the process by asking if we’re willing to participate.
What say you? If the answer yes, then we can trust Him to lead and guide us. In addition, He will work all things for our good. Hang in there. He got us.
