Flip The Script
Have you ever had one of those days when everything seemed to go wrong? One bad thing on the heels of another. You wanted to focus on the positive, but the chaos clamored for attention. So what do you do? Flip the script. What? Lean into with Jesus until our thoughts and words align with the truth of what He says. Say it with me…Flip the script.
The Story: Psalm 64
In Psalm 64, David cried out to God and asked Him to hear his complaint. He desired protection from his enemies. They plotted evil schemes against him. They spoke bitter words, and their tongues were like swords. They attack suddenly and fearlessly. As they set traps in secret, they wondered who would notice their perfect plan because their hearts and minds were cunning.
However, God will shoot David’s enemies with His arrow, and they will fall suddenly. Their own tongues will ruin them. In addition, onlookers will fear because they will see the mighty acts of God and see what He did. The godly will be glad as they find comfort in Him. Therefore, they will praise God because they did what was right.
The Lesson
From the verses, David shows us how to flip the script. He started his prayer with a complaint about his enemies. Their words and actions threatened him, so he needed God’s protection. His enemies believed in their own plans because they were cunning. Despite the evidence in front of him, David had to flip the script. He focused on God’s ability to fight for him. God would cause the enemies’ words to land on themselves and bring destruction. Therefore, the godly will rejoice and praise Him for doing what is right.
We have the same opportunity as David to flip the script. Our enemies rear their heads. Problems arise. Solutions fail. Money comes up short. New reports offer no good news. Challenges abound, and they scream for our attention. They beg for our worry and stress.
But God offers another way. He asks us to cast our cares upon Him (1 Peter 5:7). No need to worry because He is with us (Philippians 4:6-7). Despite what’s going on around us, we can rejoice in the Lord (Philippians 4:4). God is a mighty warrior who saves (Zephaniah 3:17); therefore, we have hope. When we focus on the Lord, He grows in us, and everything around us shrinks in comparison to Him.
Let’s flip the script.
